Aantekeningen: | Last Name: Faes First Name: Theodorus Johannes Date of Birth: 18/10/1977 Date of death: 06/05/1958 Rescuer's fate: survived Nationality: THE NETHERLANDS Gender: Male Place during the war: Breda, Noordbrabant, The Netherlands Rescue Place: Breda, Noordbrabant, The Netherlands Rescue mode: Hiding Arranging shelter File number: File from the Collection of the Righteous Among the Nations Department (M.31.2/2835) One day in July 1942, Abraham van de Rhoer wrote in his testimony to Yad Vashem, our friends, Theo and Maria Faes, arrived unexpectedly on our doorstep and told us that we should not let the Germans catch us, and that they had a plan to rescue us. When we protested, saying that this was risky for them, they told us they knew and were busy rescuing other people. Thus, Helena and Abraham van de Rhoer went into hiding with Theo and Maria in Breda, North Brabant, until they were relocated to a permanent hideout with Henricus and Johanna de Roos*. However, even after they had moved to the Rooses, the Jewish couple often returned temporarily to the Faes home in times of acute danger. When they did, they always met the other fugitives, including Mr. Dasberg, who had found refuge with Theo and Maria. On May 8, 1984, Yad Vashem recognized Theodorus Johannes Faes and his wife, Maria Faes-Snoeren, as Righteous Among the Nations. |
