Bertha shared an apartment with Louise Matthes (later Schreinemacher-Matthes*) in Hengelo. Both women were employed as social workers. When they took Kitty in for safekeeping in the spring of 1943, they also found her a job as a housekeeper with the Damhuis family. It was through this employment that Kitty met Riemko M. Holtrop, whom she married officially, though illegally, in August 1944. On April 12, 1992, Yad Vashem recognized Bertha ter Braak as Righteous Among the Nations. |
