Willem took Philip to his parents, Akke and Cornelis, who was a plumber in the village and whose sons later joined him in the family business. Philip became like a son to them and a brother to their other children and he was brought up modestly but well and supplied with food and clothing at no cost. After the liberation, he was reunited with his mother, the only surviving member of his family. On April 29, 1976, Yad Vashem recognized Cornelis Willem van der Hoop, his wife, Akke van der Hoop-Oostenveld, and their son Willem van der Hoop as Righteous Among the Nations. |
