They made contact with members of a local underground group and, by February 1942, an address was found for her with the van Honks in Deil, Gelderland. Arie and Sara van Honk, who had three sons, treated the little girl like a fourth child and she was loved by all of them. Because she did not look Jewish, she was able to go to the local school with all the other children when she reached the age of six. Arie registered her in the local population register as Helena Godfrieda Duste. When there were searches, she was hidden in the basement and never found. After the war, it appeared that neither of Ilenka’s parents had survived and the van Honks tried to adopt her legally. However the courts ruled that Ilenka had to be sent to an uncle in Israel. When she grew up she remembered her rescuers and went to Holland to reestablish contact. On October 21, 1987, Yad Vashem recognized Arie van Honk and his wife, Sara Maria van Honk-Sonnevijlle, as Righteous Among the Nations.
