Thenceforth, several Resistance members cared for them, among them Mrs. Els Kloevekorn, Hans van der Meer, and Anne Veenstra*. Then, on April 23, 1943, they arrived in Friesland. While there, they spent most of their time in Donkerbroek and in Haulerwijk, where they stayed in the home of a key local Resistance leader, Cornelis (Kees) Hofstra and his wife, Froukje. After the war, Alice testified about Kees and Froukjes courageous acts, which included rescuing her, her sister, and many other Jews. On June 26, 1979, Yad Vashem recognized Cornelis Hofstra and his wife, Froukje Hofstra-Minkes, as Righteous Among the Nations.
