During the war years, many families helped hide her, principally the Roostees* of Arnhem. However, in 1944, after the Battle of Arnhem, the city was evacuated and the Rostees were forced to leave. They fled to Barneveld, taking Marianne with them. In Barneveld they stayed with two families, the Waayenbergs* and the Goors. The Goors were an elderly couple, aged 85 and 84 at the time. Their youngest daughter, Klazina, or Sien for short (later Ansink), was living with them. During the course of Marianne's stay there, a special friendship developed between her and Sien, who was fiercely anti-Nazi and determined to help the Jews. On May 11, 1980, Yad Vashem recognized Aart Goor, his wife, Maria Goor-van den Brink, and their daughter, Klazina Ansink-Goor, as Righteous Among the Nations.
