In January 1943, she was put in touch with people who helped Jews find hiding places in and around Hillegom, South Holland. With their help, she went to live with Klaas and Dorothea (Dora) Kreeft, who treated her very well, having no other motive than rescuing those who were being persecuted. In April of the same year, Catharina's contact had a change of heart and betrayed all the Jews in his care to the Germans. However, Klaas and Doras adult son, Roel, happened to hear about it before it was too late and warned his parents and sister Geesje (later Geesje Dol-Kreeft*) just in time for Catharina to be able to hide with Teun and Annie Kranenburg*. Catharina van Thijn-Blitz stayed in touch with Klaas and Dora Kreeft until their deaths. On March 19, 1985, Yad Vashem recognized Klaas Kreeft and his wife, Dorothea Kreeft-van Eeuwen, as Righteous Among the Nations. |
