Aantekeningen: | Last Name: Braber First Name: Wijnand Rescuer's fate: survived Nationality: THE NETHERLANDS Gender: Male Place during the war: Aalsmeer, Noordholland, The Netherlands Rescue Place: Aalsmeer, Noordholland, The Netherlands Rescue mode: Hiding File number: File from the Collection of the Righteous Among the Nations Department (M.31.2/4135) In January 1944, Mirjam Dunner, the daughter of Rabbi Lazar Dunner of Köln, was forced to leave the Olij* family, where she had sought shelter. Mirjam relocated to relatives of the Olijs, Wijnand and Nel Braber. The Brabers were already hiding a Jewish couple, but they still treated their extra guest kindly. As opposed to the other couple in hiding in their home, Mirjam, who did not look especially Jewish, was allowed the freedom of wandering outside the confines of the house. From the Brabers home, Mirjam was transferred temporarily to Anne Olijs brother, Maarten Verbeek*. Later on, she returned to the Brabers, where she remained until it was safe enough for her to return to her original shelter at the Olijs. After the war, Mirjam remained in contact with the Olij, Verbeek, and Braber families. On May 3, 1989, Yad Vashem recognized Wijnand Braber and his wife, Nel Braber, as Righteous Among the Nations. |
