Aantekeningen: | Last Name: Caspers First Name: Willem Johan Date of Birth: 26/01/1865 Date of death: 13/11/1948 Rescuer's fate: survived Nationality: THE NETHERLANDS Gender: Male Place during the war: Utrecht, Utrecht, The Netherlands Rescue Place: Utrecht, Utrecht, The Netherlands Rescue mode: Hiding File number: File from the Collection of the Righteous Among the Nations Department (M.31.2/1711) Mrs. Stodel-Brenner hid in the city of Utrecht with Willem Caspers and his daughter Johanna from autumn 1942 until the liberation of the Netherlands. It was especially dangerous because the Casperses neighbor was E. Drost, a notorious war criminal (executed in 1949). The distance between the two houses was less than four yards and Drost regularly visited the Casperses home. The Germans twice searched the Casperses house, once in the middle of the night. Mrs. Stodel was hidden under the wardrobe in Willems bedroom and was not detected. My husband, my mother, and the rest of my family all died in concentration camps, Mrs. Stodel wrote in her testimony to Yad Vashem, but I survived thanks to the help of the Caspers family. On December 30, 1979, Yad Vashem recognized Willem Johan Caspers and his daughter, Johanna Caspers, as Righteous Among the Nations. |
