Knowing that they were in considerable danger, Salomon Dessaur and his wife, Rosa Louise Dessaur-Jacobs, managed to find the address of Reverend Louis Buenk of Doetinchem (who was part of the Veessen-Heerde Resistance cell).
The Dessaurs, who were living in Scheveningen, went to meet Reverend Buenk, who immediately set to work finding a hiding place for the couple. He sent them to stay with Reverend Frederikse*, who was also active in the Resistance. The Dessaurs stayed there from the summer of 1943 until the liberation of the south of the country in September 1944. During the war, Reverend Buenk, later a minister at Veessen, Gelderland, hid at least two others: the Benninga siblings, who sheltered there from August 1942 until mid-October and mid-November 1942.
On March 4, 1985, Yad Vashem recognized Reverend Louis Buenk and his wife Mrs. Buenk as Righteous Among the Nations.
