Rescue Story
Beusekom van, Jan & Jannetje (van den Eijkel) When the war broke out Jan and Jannetje van Beusekom were living in Aalsmeer, North Holland, with two children and Jannetje’s mother. Their house was in a remote area, surrounded by greenhouses, an ideal location for hiding Jews. In 1943, Joseph and Agaata Vis*, activists in the Resistance movement, encouraged Jan and Jannetje to hide J. Rosenstein in their home. He was welcomed by the family and remained with them for 18 months, until the liberation. Throughout his stay with the van Beusekoms, the refugee was treated very well, receiving more than an equal share of the small amount of food available. On June 28, 1984, Yad Vashem recognized Jan van Beusekom and his wife, Jannetje van Beusekom-Van den Eijkel, as Righteous Among the Nations.
