Rescue Story
Bergh van den, Jeanne M. (van Teyn)
During the war, Jeanne van den Bergh saved Jews from persecution in Nieuwlande, Drenthe. This information is based on the testimony of Arnold Douwes*, the initiator and indefatigable organizer of the project for hiding Jews in the area, and Nico (Max LĂ©ons), a young Jew from Voorburg, South Holland, who was his faithful assistant. Between 1943 and 1945, Douwes kept a diary in which he mentioned Jeanne among the people who helped to hide Jews.
On June 9, 1983, Yad Vashem recognized Jeanne van den Bergh-van Teyn as Righteous Among the Nations.
